University of Iowa Sailing Club Spring 2006 Photography Contest

Introduction: The University of Iowa Sailing Club Spring 2006 Photography Contest is intended to generate interest in the University of Iowa Sailing Club and highlight its members and its facilities at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Through the medium of photography, the Club hopes to encourage people to visit Lake Macbride and enjoy the sport of sailing.

Judging: Entries will be judged on their creativity, photographic quality, and their effectiveness in portraying the University of Iowa Sailing Club, its members, and its facilities. Entries must be appropriate for posting on the Club's website. Indecent, provocative, or otherwise unsuitable content will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the judges.

Deadlines: The contest will start accepting entries on Monday, March 20, 2006. No entries will be accepted after 5:00 PM Central Daylight Time on Sunday, May 7, 2006.

Eligibility: The judges and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter this contest.

Prizes: Two prizewinners will be selected from all the entries submitted. The best entry by a non-student will receive $50. The best entry by a student will receive $50 and a free one-year membership in the University of Iowa Sailing Club. For the purposes of this contest, a "student" is defined as someone who qualifies for the student membership rate in the University of Iowa Sailing Club. "Honorable mentions" may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges. The decision of the judges will be final.

How to Enter: To enter the contest, fill out the online entry form. An email with further details on how to submit photograph(s) to the contest will then be sent to the address entered in the form.

Number of Entries: Each entrant may submit photographs in only a single category--either student or non-student. If a photographer enters photographs in both categories, only those entered in the non-student category will be considered. Each entrant may submit no more than two photographs. If a photographer enters more than two photographs, only the first two received will be considered. All entries are final. Entries may not be withdrawn, replaced, or modified once they have been submitted.

Return of Entries: Entries will not be returned. Make backup copies of all entries before submitting them.

Format of Entries: Only digital photographs or scans may be entered in the contest. Each photograph entered must be in JPEG format and be at least one mega-pixel in size (i.e., height in pixels times width in pixels must be at least 1,000,000) but the JPEG file must be less than 5 megabytes (5,242,880 bytes) total. Images must be in natural color.

Image Modifications: Entries may be cropped, rotated and/or resized as long as the aspect ratio is maintained and the size is within the specifications given above.

The addition of text or graphics to the images (such as borders, frames, visible watermarks, captions, or copyright notices) is not permitted. Minor digital enhancements (such as red-eye removal or other "tweaks") are permitted, but entries that have been obviously manipulated or that appear unnatural will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the judges.

Copyright and Licensing: A photograph entered in the contest must be solely the work of the entrant. Do not enter a photograph that was taken by someone else. Do not enter a derivative work based on someone else's copyrighted image or images.

A photographer retains the copyright to the photographs he or she enters in the contest. But in order to enter the contest, a photographer must agree to the following:
