Boat Checkout Policy
Recommended Procedures to Check Out a Boat from Lake Macbride
All boats must be checked out whether for sailing on the South Arm of the lake, on the North Arm of the lake, or off the lake.
No boat may be checked out for pleasure sailing or racing on a designated teaching weekend before 3 p.m. without permission of a member of the Executive Council.
A boat may not be checked out for pleasure sailing off of Lake Macbride; only for racing.
Members rated Advanced Light-Weather Helmsmen and above may purchase a key to the boathouse and sail at any time provided weather conditions are within your limits rating. Light-Weather Helmsmen can sail only when supervised by other sailors of a higher rating.
The procedures to check out a boat for sailing on the South Arm should be well known:
You must have at least a light weather helmsman rating and the winds must not be stronger than you can sail in. A Light Weather Rating will allow you to sail only the FJ's. To sail any other boat, you must be explicitly checked out on that type of boat.
You may not sail a boat that has been red-tagged for repairs.
You must put your membership card (and it must be current) on the revolving checkout stand and sign out the boat in the checkout book.
If there is no one left at the boathouse, it must be locked up.

When you return the boat, you must put it away unless there is someone there who is qualified to sail the boat and wants to check it out. The boat must be drained of water and the sails folded properly and put away in the proper place. If sails are wet they must be hung-up to dry before being folded and stored (in some cases they may be left hanging to dry overnight).
To check out a boat for sailing on the North Arm, you must hold a HWH rating or above, or be supervised by the same, and follow the same checkout for sailing a boat on the South Arm. You must also get permission from a member of the executive council if it is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or a University Holiday.
To check out a boat for sailing off of Lake Macbride, keep in mind that a boat may not be removed from the lake for pleasure sailing, only for racing. You must follow the same procedures as for sailing on the south arm. However, you must first request and receive formal permission from the club at a general membership meeting at least nine days in advance of the time you want to take the boat. If more than one person wants a boat at the same time for off the lake racing, a drawing will be held at the general membership meeting nine days in advance of the day of the race to decide who gets the boat. The racing team shall have permission to take one FJ off the lake for an intercollegiate regatta with the Rear Commodore's permission. They must still check out the boat.
