Minutes from UISC Members Meeting on Wednesday, 1/18/05 in the Purdue Room,

Room 341 in the IMU

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Commodore Ben Miller-Todd.

There were 16 people attending.

I. Minutes from last Members on 12/7/05 were read by former secretary John

Huntley and were approved without change.

II. Officer's Reports:

   A. Dave Steinman, Harbor Master:

        i. The tug needs some improvements

        ii. We are short one tug battery.  The battery from the yellow tug

was moved to the new tug.

   B. Matt Legg,  Team Captain/ Social Chair:

        i. The sailing team will be traveling to Purdue University in West

Lafayette, IN on February 3rd and 4th for the MCSA Midwinter's Conference.

        ii. The sailing team would like to host a regatta in the spring.  The

club and team have hosted FUJ for the past two years.  Lindsey received an

email from suggesting the date of the regatta be changed.  Matt will bring a

schedule of the teaching weekends to Midwinter's to avoid scheduling conflicts.

   C. John Huntley, Former Secretary:

        i. The cruising class will start next Wednesday (1/25/06) after the

members meeting.

   D. Ben Miller-Todd, Commodore:

        i. Fleeces will be in next Wednesday.  If you ordered one, you can

pick it up at the meeting.  If you will not be able to attend the meeting,

please email Ben at bmillertodd@msn.com.

III.    Unfinished Business:

   A. Matias reported on the status of the Club's photo contest.  The judges

have been meeting periodically and are finalizing the rules for the contest.

The final rules will be posted on the internet with the sign-up information in

a week or two.  John Huntley reminded those present that there is a $100 prize

for the winner of the contest.

   B. John Huntley offered to buy lifejackets in varying sizes and colors for

the club.  Moved (by Lindsey Schneider/ Lauren Trolley) that John purchase 10

zip-up vest style lifejackets from West Marine for $28 each.  Motion passed.

   C. John Huntley found the cash box in the boat house with about $315 of un-

cashed checks inside (including Daniel Rogge's membership check).  Lauren

Trolley mentioned that we need to decide whose responsibility it is to check

the cash box.

   D.Any progress on the radial sails?

IV. New Business:

   A. A 1968 M 16 scow was donated to the club last week.  It has sails, a

trailer, and registration.  It is ready to sail.

   B. The club received a letter from U.S. Sail saying that we need to pay a

$100 renewal fee to renew our membership from last year.  Moved (by John

Huntley/ Matt Legg) to pay renewal fee.  Motion passed.

   C. The guidelines for the John Deere Tug were presented to those present.

      The guidelines are as follows: 1. Drive slow

                                2. Drive in low range.

                                3. Keep tug in 4-wheel drive.

                                4. No riders.

                                5. Always wear seatbelt.

                                6. Use safety chains.

                                7. Refuel with diesel only.

                                8. Use only if qualified.

                                9. Do not use for large boats. (i.e. E or C

scows)

Moved (by John Huntley/ Lauren Trolley) to adopt new rules.  Motion passes.

There was a special note to NEVER drive the tug into the water.  The engine

will seize and we will need to purchase a new engine.

    D. Strictly Sail is at Navy Pier in Chicago the first weekend in

February.  Does the club want to send a car?  Lauren Trolley received an email

from the MCSA saying that the sailing team can have a booth at Strictly Sail

to recruit.

    E. Matt Legg nominated for Membership chair position following Casey

Judge's resignation.  Matt accepted nomination and moved (by Tom Hart/ Lindsey

Schneider) to accept nomination.  Daniel Rogge offered to help out on weekends

when Matt Legg will be out of town at regattas.  Rogge's cousin, Ross, may

also help after he joins the club.

V. Announcements

    A. John Huntley still has old T-shirts and burgees for sail.

    B. The meeting was almost adjourned, but thankfully, someone remembered

the Albatross.  The only nomination was Matias for cutting through the ice

with the blades of an ice boat.  Matias received the coveted award for the

week.
