Minutes of the UIISC Members' Meeting, Wednesday, 10/12/2005. in the Purdue Room, 341 IMU,

(to be read at the 10/19 Members' Meeting for additions, corrections, and adoption).

Commodore Lindsey Schneider called the meeting to order at 1703 hours, 12 persons attending, including Exec. Officers Lindsey S., John H., Rich A., Lauren T., Dave S., and Erin F.)

1.  Minutes from the Mbrs'Mtg of 9/28/05 were read and adopted.  Minutes from the Exec. Officers' Meeting of 10/5/05 (as reported by Tom Hart) were also adopted by acclimation.

2.  Officers' reports:

A. Membership, Heather, reported by Erin:

The web site is up; some data lost; but soon it will be functional again.  By e-mail, Heather reports in greater detail:

The website back up and running. Unfortunately many of our files were unrecoverable, so I had to start with the version I had backed up. This does not impact historical things such as the library, meeting minutes, address lists, etc. Please give me a few days to make changes before letting me know that things are out of date or incorrect. I'll let you know if I need something specific from you.

One correction to the 10/5/05 minutes: website charges are approximately $25 this year, with an extra $15 each year going forward (the reverse of what Tom has written). I've already paid the $15 for the domain name this year.

B. Vice Commodore, Erin:

A review of rules, policies, and procedures that was requested last summer is proceeding.  In the revised version now current, some items were omitted which ought to be reinserted, viz. No swimming, no alcohol, good conduct, etc.  Some of these are  common sense; some repeat DNR Iowa Boating Regs.  Shortly, a revised document will be presented for discussion and adoption.

The 3rd teaching session of the year is over, and the entire season has been extremely successful, topped off with last weekend's sailing event which brought out many new and old members.

C.  Harbor Master, Dave:

Soon we start putting equipment away for the winter, slowly at first, but soon to go full sail.  Members are urged to come out and help.

D.  MCSA Racing Co-Captain, Lauren:

This weekend, UISC will send 4 racers to Madison and 4 to Indiana.

E.  Secretary, John:

SuperScuttleButt is on hold for the moment pending return of the web site and construction of a trustworthy database.   Thanks to Heather, we have Lifetime Members' Log books (numbered in the single and double digits) ready for insertion when mailing time comes.

Lane Davis' framed picture, with his Lifetime Member Log Book and a note identifying the co-founder of the UISC will be rehung in the boathouse over the sign-out desk.

3. Unfinished business:

Moved (for a second reading and vote) that the Club purchase 2 FJ's with sails for $2500 each.  Brief discussion, question called, and it passes for a second time.

4.  New business:

Moved (Lauren/ Casey) that 2 of the Club's FJs be allowed to be trailered to Indiana this weekend, one of them to serve as Minnesota's contribution to the rotating fleet since MN now sails nothing  but 420s.   Motion discussed, queastion called, and it passes unanimously.

[This just in: Minnesota has cancelled so now only1 of our boats travels to Bloomington.]

5.  Announcements, etc.

Three nominations for the Albatross award:

• Casey nominates Ben for setting out to sea with no plugs in the transom, an omission discovered as water fills the boat.

• Lindsey nominates Eric (again); this time forgetting to secure painter to dock, an omission that required swimming out after the drifting boat.  [This just in, by e-mail: For the record, I didn't forget to tie the painter, I simply dropped it.  The water is still pretty warm too.  -Eric

• Casey nominates Matias and Amy for turtling their boat and returning it ashore caked and covered with Lake Macbride bottom muck.

•  By decibel count as measured by the Commodore's ears, the coveted award is delivered to Matias.

Respectfully submitted, John Huntley, secretary
