1. Davis Cup Regatta successfully conducted; thanks to many, many volunteers.

final teaching day. More instructors are needed.
3. Two of 6 slightly used FJ's may be available for purchase by the UISC for $2500
each; details will be forthcoming.
B. Secretary, John:
1. Going through 14 diskettes (found in the boathouse, left there by someone, and deriving from Jenny Springsteen's tenure), the secretary has discovered an amended version of the UISC Constitution subtitled “Approved January 30, 2002.” How or when this came about, and why we have known only a version dated 1979 posted on the web site is under investigation at the moment.
2. Reminder that next Wednesday is Exec. Group meeting and that the Nominating Committee (consisting of the Commodore, past Commodore, and Faculty Advisor) might consider criteria for proposing next year's leadership and start the search process.
C. Team Co-Captain, Lauren T. and Matt t.: Results of the Davis Regatta held September 24-25 (this report abridged for the minutes from the full account circulated to members via the List-Serv on 9/28).

Saturday morning teams gathered at 8AM at the Iowa Sailing Club boat
house on Lake McBride, 10 milesNorth of Iowa City. A thunder storm
ensued. For three hours distant thunder rumblings prolonged any racing.
Coincidentally, the wind throughout the morning blew at a measly 5
knots or less. Races started at 1PM when the storm lifted and the breeze
picked up. By mid-afternoon the wind blew steadily between 10-15 knots.
The wind was, however, quite shifty the course was frequently re-set.
The boats sailed were Iowa's fleet of FJ's. Sixteen races took place;
10 Saturday, 6 Sunday. The course sailed was a windward-leward course.
Once around when the wind was light and twice around Saturday afternoon
when the breeze was good. Sunday morning brought light winds and longer
races. As listed above. The Michigan State Green squad won both divisions
and consequently won sweet beanie caps made by Iowa sailors. The protest
committee consisted of Bill Budelier, John Huntley. The race committee
consisted of Lauren Trolley, Len Sandler, Warren Darling, and Rich Adkins. The
crash boat was driven by Pat Morton, John McCormick, and Dillan Laughlin.
Thank you to all who volunteered their time. The regatta chair is Matt Legg.
Congratulations to Michigan State's Rob Linded and Cass Hauserman, who won 8
for 8 races in the A-division, and Mills Forni and Audrey Burskey on winning
the B division. Thank you to all the teams who sailed.
D. Membership, Heather:
Total current members (as of 9/28) is 134.
Public = 62 or 46%
Students = 41 or 31%
Unidentified = 4 or 3%
University = 27 or 20%
Univ/Student TOTAL = 68 or 51%
Novice = 41
Advanced LWH = 22
Crew = 20
Heavy Weather = 18
Light Weather = 17
No rating assigned or provided = 12
Skipper = 5
Number with keys = 42 (out of 45 currently listed as eligible)
The novice number is definitely inflated, especially since this is a
lessons time, and if we through the list I think there would be at least
a handful that are now LWH or above.
As soon as the website is back up in some capacity I am hoping to send
out notices asking people to look at their info and update me with their
appropriate ratings, phone numbers, etc.
3. Unfinished Business.
A. The Tug Committee's report postponed until members (Rich A., Bill B., and Dave S.) can actually test drive various candidates for UISC use.
4. New Business:
A. The website remains down. Consensus forms that it should be moved to a University server where automatic backup is guaranteed. Warren D. will check with ITS (Info Tech Service) regarding storage limits and costs.
B. Key Card system-Consensus forms that the Club needs back up and on-site capability for maintaining this access system with a minimum of frustration.
C. Commodore Lindsey will talk to Wisconsin people and circulate information to UISC members about the 2 FJs.
5. Announcements, awards, speculations.
Once again, the Albatross awarded to Eric O. for interesting strategies for both keeping the boat dry and winning a race-the two goals appear to have been contradictory.
Respectfully submitted, John Huntley, secretary.
