Minutes of the ISC Members’ Meeting convened Saturday, 6/11/05, at the Boathouse.
Adopted as the first order of business on 6/25/05
Meeting called to order by Erin Flowers at 1515
1. Minutes of the Members’ Meeting of 5/28 read and adopted.
2. Officer’s Reports.
A. Huntley reported on the recent cruise taken by 6 members of the Club from Key West to the Dry Tortugas and back.
B. Vice Commodore, Erin:
Sunday, 6/12, will b e the last session of the summer teaching series.
Richard and Erin report that approximately 95% of the rated, active members of the Club responded to the call and came out to help teach new members.
C. Harbor Master, Dave:
Plans proceed (slowly, perhaps) to confer with Dave Lippy about designing and building FJ dollies on the Seitech pattern.
D. Fleet Captain, Richard:
FJ Nationals at Red Rock Rez coming up next weekend.
Caution to all tug drivers: turn off the ignition key completely when done; otherwise a single click to start-ready position will drain the battery.
New, laminated instructions for running the tug will be prepared and posted.
E. Membership, Heather:
We have now 146 active members in the club after an extremely successful summer teaching series.
Perhaps we should add a new category of membership to designate person who are not undergraduate UI students, but nevertheless are associated with the University (faculty, staff, emeriti, alumni), this to help balance UI to Public member ratios.
3. Unfinished business. There being none, Erin moved the meeting to consider new business.
4. New business.
Moved (Heather, Gibson) that the Club buy 10 new jacket-style PFDs in varying sizes. Also suggested: members might ask to have the Club augment this bulk order to buy a personal (rather that publicly used) life jacket for themselves. Motion discussed, question called, and it passes unanimously.
Moved (Heather / Richard) that there be no ISC members’ meeting next Saturday in light of the fact that many officers will be attending the FJ Nationals. Motion discussed, question called, and it passes unanimously.
5. Announcements, etc.
There will be sailing next weekend, however. Austin Bunn, Jana Brumbaugh, and Dave Steinman will be in charge of these activities spanning 6/18 and 6/19.
Nominations for the Albatross. Joe Fricton nominated for his interesting, if perhaps desperate, relationship with a Laser tiller. Scott Carter nominated for loudly informing the anchorage at the Dry Tortugas of the size of a barracuda’s jaw in decibals vigorous enough to carry some distance under water and even alert skipper John to a possible tsunami flowing under Jolly Mon’s keel. Applause levels, as determined by the Commodore, assigned the coveted prize to Joe.
Meeting adjourned at 1554.
Respectfully submitted,
John Huntley, secretary
