University of Iowa Sail Club

Meeting Minutes October 5, 2005

The UISC meeting was called to order by Commodore Lindsey Schneider at 0700.

The reading of Minutes was deferred to a future meeting.

Officer reports

Lindsey reported for Vice Commodore Erin Flowers regarding planning for a

teaching regatta on Saturday October 8, 2005.  Assistance would be appreciated

to help set up the course, man the john boat, and staff the BBQ grill. Committee

rules were reviewed and stand nearly the same as presented. Erin will bring

documents to the next meeting.

Commodore Lindsey reported that Lauren, Warren and herself would serve as the

nominations committee and would welcome interest and recommendations for club

officer positions.

Lauren reported that the race team had 8 participants go to the Michigan State

Regatta. The UISC team placed 9th out of 14 teams in A division, 10th in B

division.

Fleet Captain Rich Adkins accepted another boat donation to the Club. It is a

14‚ „Mark 2‰ and is similar to a Vagabond.

Old Business

A.  Motion was made by Commodore Lindsey/Second by Lauren to Purchase two 2001

Vanguard FJs at $2,500/each The boats include detailing back at Vanguard,

shipping to Madison, WI, one set of used sails from previous owner and one set

of brand new sails (still in the box).

The motion passed on its first of two readings by unanimous consent.

B  Motion was made by Commodore Lindsey/Second by Ben Miller-Todd for permission

to tow one club FJ to Indiana for and October 14-16 regatta.  Motion passed by

unanimous consent.

C. Motion was made by Bill / Second by Warren to secure a new commercial Web

site service for the UISC web page. The anticipated cost are $25-$50 for the

first year with annual costs at $25 there after. Heather will facilitate the

transition. Motion passed by unanimous consent.

Announcements

Lindsey‚s 21st birthday was on 9/30 (A date also shared by Heather seven years

earlier)

Potential celebration may include a Halloween Party to include a nautical

pumpkin carving contest.

Albatross Nominations included

#!      Charlie Miksch for baling the John Boat shortly after launching.

#2      Lindsey and Lauren for their entertaining technique in trying to right an

FJ!

Vote by applause was awarded to Lindsey and Lauren.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM.
