Minutes from the
ISC Officers’ Meeting
3/2/2005, in Rooo259 IMU
The meeting called to order by Commodore Schneider at 7:02, 10 officers and 3 members attending.
1. The minutes from the Officers’ Meeting of 2/2/2005 were read and approved unanimously, there being no additions or corrections.
2. Officer’s Reports.
A. 40th Reunion Chairperson, Jenny Springsteen:
Date: Saturday, July 30th
Location: Sheraton, downtown Iowa City
Contract: Being drawn up, will state a spending minimum of $8,000 which
includes food, beverage, room rental, service charge, etc. A deposit of
$1,000 is required by March 11, and will be put toward our final bill.
I will hold a block of 8 rooms for now, and we can increase as
necessary.
I will begin recruiting volunteers for various committees including
decorating, invitations, pricing, entertainment, door prizes,
memorabilia for-sale, etc. I will incorporate this info. in the next
Scuttlebutt, which I am now working on. Then I will begin to work
diligently on compiling a contact list of current and former members,
designing invitations and RSVP cards, and the overall schedule of
events.
For ticket prices to the banquet, I will have to consider the per-person
cost for the dinner, an estimate of what will be spent on beverages,
prizes, entertainment, printing, etc. We will hopefully also be able to
generate donations, and maybe some extra memberships.
I would also like to start planning with Todd for the regatta to be held
during the day Saturday. We will need to plan what fleets should be
available, prizes, race committee, rigging and safety volunteers, food
and prizes.
I've attached a brief outline of the agenda for the event. Many more
details will be included soon!

B. Publicity, Jenny:
I need to see a schedule of teaching days and regattas for this year before I can start designing and printing ads for recruitment. (That would be nice for the Scuttlebutt, too!) I also would like to know when the team would be interested in doing an on-campus recruitment drive and organized practice dates for newcomers. Lots of ideas, so little time!!!
C. Safety Officer, Todd:
The new electric key lock system has been installed. We’ll sell keys at cost to members earning unrestricted access to the boathhuse for $2.00. Keys for RecServices staff have been delivered to Wayne Fett. The system will be tested and ready for use by the time we open the boathouse for Spring sailing.
D. Membership, Heather:
The corrected and up-to-date list of paid-up ISC members (numbering 75 as of now) has been posted and is ready for e-mailing, telephoning, or mailing.
The Log Books are being distributed to paid up members. Key cards will be supplied later.
E. Harbor Master, Dave and Tom:
Tom will negotiated with the owner of the boom truck for rental and trimming from the lock-up to the boathouse and down the ramp to the overhanging branches near the bottom. Estimated cost for this work, probably less than $500. There appeared to be informal affirmation that Tom proceed with the negotiation.
3. Committee reports:
A. The Volunteer Work Group study committee: Richard, Todd, and Erin:
No report is ready yet. Meanwhile, Richard, who has circulated a memorandum of ideas, questions, and possible plans, highlighted major points.
4. Unfinished business:
Safety officer: Todd.
The CPR course for all ISC officers and other members who desire will probably be scheduled with Rec Services in the near future.
5 New business:
A calendar of future dates was moved (Huntley/Adkins) and adopted unanimously: July 30th Fortieth Reunion ceremonies. March 26 (and April 2) boathouse opening. April 23 and 24 Open House for prospective members at the boathouse.
6. Announcements, etc.
Communications received:
From USSailing, posters and an announcement of upcoming championship regattas (this will forwarded to the Rear Commodore, Todd).
From RecServices an illustrated 2004-2005 calendar which features Sports Clubs (November) mentioning the Sailing Club and features Macbride Recreation Nature Area (March) (this will be forwarded to the Publicity chairperson, Jenny)
From “Iowa City Physical Activity Resource List” distributed at the Health Fair, the Iowa Sailing Club prominently displayed as one of 4 “Cubs and Organizations.” (this, too, will be forwarded to Jenny for possible future use)
Meeting adjourned at 7:25.
Respectfully submitted, John Huntley, secretary
